As the Father's Set-apart People, can we take something that is CLEARLY EVIL and SANCTIFY it by EVANGELIZING and sharing the Gospel Message?
Many churches and Christian organizations host "Trunk or Treats" or fall festivals in which they pass out tracts or messages with "Christian themes" or the Gospel Message in hopes that they may bring Light and Hope to such a dark time.
But what does Scripture say about this? Can we, as Believers, indeed sanctify Halloween?
Deuteronomy 14:2
“You are a set-apart people to Adonai your Elohim, and Adonai has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a treasured possession above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”
As Believers, we claim the covenant of our spiritual ancestor Abraham. As we are grafted into the Abrahamic covenant, we also now are under the Mosaic covenant. We are Set-apart and holy, a royal priesthood.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of DARKNESS into His marvelous LIGHT.
Scripture tells us to have NOTHING to do with evil deeds of darkness. It instructs us to not do what the "heathen" and unholy (NOT Set-apart) do.
Ephesians 5:11
And have nothing to do with the fruitless works of darkness, but rather expose them!"
Jeremiah 10:2a
Thus said Adonai, "Do not learn the way of the nations (everyone that is not Set-apart)"
Furthermore, we are not the ones to make things HOLY. We are not able to SANCTIFY.
Leviticus 21:8
"And you shall set him apart, for he brings the bread of your Elohim, he is set-apart to you. For I, Adonai, setting you apart (making holy), am set-apart (holy)."
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the Elohim (GOD) of peace Himself set you completely apart (made holy), and your entire spirit, and being, and body-be preserved blameless at the coming of our Master Yeshua (Jesus) Messiah!
***As the creation (man) which has need of its Creator setting it apart to be made holy, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO SET-APART HALLOWEEN TO SANCTIFY IT AND MAKE IT HOLY. ***
If holy means set-apart and there is nothing set-apart about Halloween, then we should not take the stance as Believers that we CAN or SHOULD "set-apart" and "make holy" the evil holiday of Halloween.
Instead, we can spend this time in prayer for the "nations", for the participants in Halloween that are our fellow Brothers and Sisters in Messiah, and in spiritual warfare on behalf of our family and others. Halloween is a deeply evil time in which many rituals and sacrifices are made. Let's use this time to pray over others rather than joining in with the nations.
Isaiah 5:20
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
