Messianic Prophecies in Scripture

Celebrating the Bible Through Teachings

Messianic Prophecies Part 3: Psalm 16

Often in Scripture, we find hints (prophetic imagery) of things to come. These may be overtly Messianic in nature, such as Psalm 2 and Psalm 22, or they be much more subtle. Some may be almost unrecognizable until the prophetic hint is fulfilled. Such is the case with the closing words of Psalm 16.

I have set YHVH always before me;

Because He is at my right hand I am not shaken.
Therefore my heart was glad, and my esteem rejoices;
My flesh also dwells in safety.

For You do not leave my being in She’ol.
Neither let Your Lovingly-committed One see corruption.
You show me the path of life;

In Your presence is joy to satisfaction;
At Your right hand are pleasures forever.

In verse 10, the “Lovingly-committed One” is not left in She'ol to see corruption. Peter first quotes this passage in Acts 2:25-28, then connects this passage to Yeshua instead of David in Acts 2:29-31:

"Men and brothers, let me speak boldly to you of the ancestor David, that he died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Being a prophet, then, and knowing that Elohim had sworn with an oath to him: of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Messiah to sit on his throne, foreseeing this he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah, that His being was neither left in She'ol, nor did His flesh see corruption."

Truly, as John wrote in John 20:9, "For they did not yet know the Scripture, that He has to rise again from the dead."

Praise be to Elohim that we have the knowledge of Messiah Yeshua and how the Father resurrected Him from the dead!
